Netflix has released the first trailer for "Scoop" (also known as "Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story"), a hard-hitting crime drama series directed by acclaimed filmmaker Hansal Mehta.
The series is based on journalist Jigna Vora's memoir titled "Behind Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison", published in 2019. Mehta, along with Mrunmayee Lagoo Waikul ("Thappad"), created the series. Vora's book delves into the murder of renowned journalist Jyotirmoy Dey by members of the Chhota Rajan gang in 2011. Vora herself was subsequently arrested a few months later in connection with the murder.

Stars: Karishma Tanna, Harman Baweja, Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub
Hansal Mehta, known for his exceptional storytelling, is the creator of the series. The star cast includes Karishma Tanna, Harman Baweja and Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub.
"Scoop" marks the first collaboration between Mehta and Netflix, setting the stage for a promising franchise. Mehta has directed all six episodes of the first season, ensuring a cohesive and immersive viewing experience.
The series revolves around Jagruti Pathak, a journalist known for her captivating headlines, who becomes entangled in a complex web involving police, criminals and the media. Mehta shared with Variety that the intent is to explore this intricate connection through a personal story.
Although Vora's book focuses primarily on her time in prison, Mehta was intrigued by the larger world that led her to that point. She wanted to delve into the fascinating elements of a middle-class girl in Mumbai with aspirations to become a top police reporter, driven by the ambition to get front-page stories. Her narrative explores how her relentless pursuit of her success leads her down a path where the reporter becomes her insider.
Karishma Tanna plays the lead role of Jagruti Pathak and impressed Mehta during the auditions with her captivating presence and her ability to light up a room. Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub, Mehta's constant collaborator since "Shahid" (2012), brings depth and dignity to her characters.
The cast also features the experienced Prasenjit Chatterjee, whose on-screen command and engaging presence make him a fascinating actor. Returning with "Scoop" after an acting hiatus, Harman Baweja plays a senior police officer and impresses with his mature and nuanced performance.
Monika Shergill, Vice President of Content at Netflix India, described "Scoop" as a powerful untold story that sheds light on the unforeseen costs of ambition and shows how a victim can become a winner in an instant.
In addition to "Scoop," Mehta has other projects in the works. She has completed a movie titled "The Buckinghamshire Murders" starring Kareena Kapoor. In addition, she is preparing for the next season of "Scam" for streamer SonyLIV, and her series on Mahatma Gandhi for Applause Entertainment is scheduled to start filming in late July.
Produced by Matchbox Shots, Sarita Patil and Dikssha Jyote Routray, "Scoop" will be released on June 2 and will offer viewers a captivating and powerful story of ambition and its consequences.
